I've bought Savages to treat like shit, crawl around in the mud and muck, beat around on an ATV and still kill shit with. I buy Sakos and the like because they are functional works of art. I still hunt and shoot them, just not in shitty conditions.
A Savage is like the town slut, it's loose and easy to get into. A fine rifle is the girl you marry, tight, treats you good, a joy to be around and put your hands on.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies. As you recall I was limited to Cabelas...long story but I was. I was able to find a Featherweight Deluxe that has beautiful wood. It took them forever to get it to the Fort Mill store and even longer for me to be in town to pick it up. All checked out and she's now mine. Side note...Cabelas gun room staff is terrible.
Now need to find rings for my glass. I'm assuming Talley is the best bet based on recent threads asking for such.
Talley of if you want a 1pc, DNZ.

Salty - help me out. I assume the obvious difference between one vs. two pc rings. For this setup though what would you suggest? Am I going to get any advantage out of 1pc or is it a personal preference thing? I like clean, classic rifle looks if that helps. As such, I was leaning toward the Talley light weight (LOW) rings in black. My scope is a 40mm so I should be good with the low. Thanks...
did you end up with .270 or .308? let's see a picture when you're finished
Nice Brown,
I have seen some of those military trigger guards get slimmed down & cleaned up CAREFULLY with a grinder that turn out really nice.
If you are looking for the classic look on a Featherweight, I'd opt for the Talley 2pc with the integral bases in the LOW. Another option is Warne.
The 1pc DNZ's mean you don't normally have any alignment issues as it is all milled and set from one piece of stock. Less room for error in a sense.

The Elites don't fear the tall nails, government possesses both the will and the means to crush those folks. What the Elites do fear (or should fear) are the quiet men and women, with low profiles, hard hearts, long memories, and detailed target folders for action as they choose.

Not the best pics but here is what she's looking like thus far. Pics don't do the wood grain justice.
