That would be a great caption this pic.

    Is that in your pond?

I've still got mergansers visiting my pond. Apparently we have quite a few that nest here in sc. Whats weird is I never see them I'm November. I don't really get them at my place until about mid December and they are thick come January.

Buddy of mine has 10 boxes in Colleton with 3 occupied by tree ducks.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

The outcome will be me shooting a merganser out of a flock of wood ducks, scraching my head, and asking myself 'how'd that happen'?

Usually the merg will "dump" her eggs and wood duck will take over. I used to help check ducks boxes on SNWR and we saw it fairly often. You never know what you will find when you open the top/side of a duck box.

I don't see why that woodie hen don't whoop that ass right out her box. I figure she'd be a little more territorial about her nest.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!
