    Default Electric Fence

I just finished fencing in my dove field to try to keep deer out. I put up a two strand fence at 5ft high. I also went three ft from that fence and put one strand about 14 inches high. My question is this. My only power source is about 300 yards from field. I don't wont to use solar panel box or battery operated box. Will it hurt anything running wire from 110v box to dove field? I don't know if will lose a lot of power or what. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes you will have considerable voltage drop running wire 300 yards.

As long as you size your wire properly no problem. If you use those cheap ass 12 awg extension cords then you may have a problem.

Car battery works great and stays charged for a long time. We have 8 strands×2000/ft. We had no power anywhere close. We push 5000 volts all day long. We recharge every 2-3 weeks...

You will be better off going solar. It will cost a lot to run a big enough gauge wire to have a good useable voltage. The solar are less likely to be struck by lightning.

Everyone I talked to said the solar panel boxes sucked. I might go with the battery operated box if I will have a tremendous amount of power loss running wire that far.

Battery box was our only option. We were gonna have to run electricity 4-500 yards through a road so we were gonna have to ditch it.

Thanks. The solar ones will not slow a pig down.

According to our tester, we push 5000 volts on all wires. Not sure if that will stop a pig

Be sure to get it grounded properly. Most problems with electric fence not working go back to grounding.
