Get the gun you plan on shooting and all the chokes you have for that gun. Go somewhere you can pattern it and put up a target for each choke, shoot, then compare. This is the only way you will know which choke shoots best with that gun and those loads.

But I'm not dog drivin' man. I'd like to see the take of some of the lowcountry guys that have kilt lots of deer in front of dogs.
Browning A-5 light 2 3/4 00. Killed truck loads with it no need to try anything else. If it ain't broke don't fix it. These combos have been killing them for years and will continue.

Just buy 3 inch #4 buckshot and start killing everything you shoot at.

This is the right move. Every gun has a different out come with patterns. Find out which choke holds the tightest pattern and stick with it. My #1 rule with buck shot is get as many pellets in the deer that you can.

Pretty solid rule. What's your rule for turkeys and ducks?

If you can find it, you need to try the Federal Premium with the Flight Control wad. That buckshot is hard to find. I have to order mine online. Different chokes in different guns pattern buckshot differently, but that Flight Control buckshot tends to throw the tightest patterns in nearly apples to apples comparison I have done.

I just found some at Able ammo and placed an order.

FWIW, I have NEVER found a combination that shot #1 buckshot consistently well. Sometimes a shot would pattern well. The next time it didn't. Always wanted to find a combination that worked though.

If it ain\'t accurate at long distance, then the fact that it is flat shooting is meaningless.

The only advice I have for you is to not get bogged down in the details. Shoot a few rounds out of each choke, figure out which is the best, and then don't think about it anymore. Where you point the gun is way more important than anything else.

Federal premium with flight control wad. And I've read u shouldn't use a choke with it so the was can do what I was designed to do.
