    Fishing and hunting report for Nov. 20

    THE KANSAS CITY STAR

    ▪*FOUNTAIN GROVE:*25,730 ducks (mostly mallards). Marshes are mostly ice-covered. Hunting has been fair.

    ▪*SQUAW CREEK:*42,570 ducks (mostly mallards); 15 geese. Marshes are 95 percent ice-covered.

    ▪*SWAN LAKE:*Declining waterfowl numbers due to ice, which covers most of the wetlands.

    ▪*BOB BROWN:*51,000 ducks (mostly mallards). Ice 3 to 4 inches thick covers 85 percent of the area. Hunting has been poor. On Tuesday, hunters averaged 1.73 ducks per man.

    ▪*NODAWAY VALLEY:*26,150 ducks (mostly mallards). Wetlands are 90 percent ice-covered. Hunting has been poor. On Tuesday, hunters averaged .04 ducks per man.

    ▪*GRAND PASS:*120,000 ducks (mostly mallards). Wetlands are 99 percent ice-covered. Hunting has been fair. On Tuesday, hunters averaged 2.5 ducks per man.

    ▪*FOUR RIVERS:*97,000 ducks as of latest count, Monday. Ice on marshes. On Monday, 52 hunters shot 196 ducks.

    ▪*SCHELL-OSAGE:*55,500 ducks and 25,000 to 40,000 snow geese as of latest count, Monday. However, staff indicated that waterfowl numbers have decreased since then because of increasing ice. Hunting has been fair to good.

    ▪*SMITHVILLE:*12,000 ducks (half mallards); 4,000 snow geese. Hunting has been good.

    ▪*MONTROSE:*2,040 ducks. Hunting has been fair.

    ▪*DUCK CREEK:*11,170 ducks; 50 Canada geese. Hunting has been poor. On Sunday, 86 hunters 101 ducks.

    ▪*OTTER SLOUGH:*18,235 ducks (good numbers of mallards); 235 Canada geese. Hunting has been good. On Saturday and Sunday, 213 hunters shot 643 ducks.

    Kansas

    ▪*CHEYENNE BOTTOMS:*9,000 ducks (mostly mallards and green-winged teal); 160,000 geese (mostly darks). About 95 percent of marshes have ice. Hunting has been fair.

    ▪*MARAIS DES CYGNES:*20,000 ducks (mostly mallard and green-winged teal). Ice on marshes. Hunting has been fair.

    ▪*QUIVIRA:*87,000 ducks (mostly mallards); 130,000 geese (65 percent snows). Area is now open to hunting in designated areas.

    ▪*MELVERN:*13,000 ducks (75 percent mallards); 1,500 Canada geese. Hunting has been good.

    ▪*MILFORD:*1,500 ducks (mostly mallards); 600 geese. Ice on marshes. Hunting has been fair.

    ▪*PERRY:*Increasing duck numbers. Hunting has been fair.

    ▪*TUTTLE CREEK:*4,000 ducks in area; 200 Canada geese. Marshes have ice. Hunting has been poor to fair.

    ▪*HILLSDALE:*Good waterfowl numbers (mostly mallards). Hunting has been fair. Marshes have ice.

    ▪*GLEN ELDER:*45,000 ducks (60 percent divers, 40 percent mallards); 50,000 geese (mostly snows). Hunting has been good.

    ▪*NEOSHO:*25,000 ducks (mostly mallards and green-winged teal); 150 Canada geese. Marshes are 90 percent ice covered.

    ▪*KIRWIN:*10,000 ducks (mostly mallards); 105,000 geese (95 percent snows).

    ▪*FLINT HILLS:*2,500 ducks (mostly gadwalls and mallards); 750 geese. Hunting has been fair.

    ▪*CLINTON:*Low waterfowl numbers. Limited water in the wildlife area.

    ▪*McPHERSON VALLEY WETLANDS:*2,500 ducks (mostly teal, pintails). All pools have huntable water. Habitat conditions very good. Hunting has been good.

    ▪*JAMESTOWN:*10,000 ducks (mix of green-winged teal, mallards). Mostly ice-covered. Hunting has been fair.
