    Default Hvac recommendation

My house has a 28 year old hvac system ran by trane unit. Question is, what brands do you recommend for a system overhaul? At the moment I do not have a heat pump, it's a split system with gas heat. Do I overhaul the entirety of just the ac unit? 2500 square foot house.

If tis 28 years old then replace entirely.

Me personally I would stick with the gas heat. I love mine

You should look at a dual fuel system. Love mine.

As an HVAC repairman, I like eat pumps. They keep me in business repairing them. If you got gas available, I would recomend it.Trane is the top brand in price and most last a long time but you can get a lemon in any brand. Let your wallet rule. Heat pumps only heat the air to 100 degrees or less if you have a good system. We, in the HVAC world call it cool heat because it is warmer than outside but may be cooler than your body temperature so it feel cold and after 35 degrees, heat pumps loose efficiency and you have to have the electric strip heat on. You could look at the new hybrid units that use gas as back up or auxiliary heat instead of electricity.

I did a lot of research on this a few years ago, when looking to buy a new unit. For the most part, only one or two manufactures make the units and the companies put their logos on them.

This is what I'd look in to, and consider a variable speed blower unit. IMO, they're worth the extra cost in overall comfort, quietness, and efficiency, but I can't prove it $-wise.

He is right this time. I work on all brands and they are only mostly cosmetic differences. Most all the compressors are made by only a few different companies as it the coils and most other parts.

So which brand of compressor units and A-coils are manufactured with the highest quality... in your opinion?

    deerslayerjohn...

WHICH brands and/or models have ALUMINUM condenser and/or A-Coils instead of copper?

I've been reading about class-action lawsuits involving Lennox, and possibly Rheem and Carrier in regards to copper coil leaks due to corrosion, etc.

I'm having a hard time getting technical info on the various brands, even from their friggin' sales people! It's unbelievable how little they know about their products.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.
