    Default First bow kill

I made a bad shot. I clipped the liver and out the gut. I feel so terrible about wasting the meat. I shot it last Thursday evening and found it Sunday morning 20 yards from where I stopped looking. Just ran out of blood. I tried to find him every day up until Sunday when I jumped the buzzards off him.

We've all been there. Sorry it happened on your first. Go sling some more arrows at foam, build your confidence back up, and get back out there.

Lost me first one in four years the first and only night I sat....I haven't been back yet. It all happens but and it won't be your last. Had a friend that freakishly lost like his first six. Now he's like 30 for his last 30. He is a killer!

Lost my first as well. Not as nice as yours (basket rack 6) but felt terrible. Didn't bow hunt the rest of the year. Dave is right, practiced a lot and feel good about slinging an arrow at one again.

I lost a monster 10 point last year in Illinois. Guess i pulled a lil and Got too far forward in the shoulder.

Found his sheds and with a 16" spread he was 148"

Still sick about it but it does happen, unfortunately

Dang dude...that sucks. But yeah, it happens to everybody. Everybody preaches about ethical kills, but when you're up there in the stand and you've got a good buck standing 30 yds from you...buck fever starts to kick in and you just have to trust yourself. Keep at it.

If you hunt... its gonna happen. Bow or rifle...its gonna happen. Keep positive thoughts and get back in the stand.

At this point, this is a good attitude for him to have. On the other hand though, if I'm with you looking for a deer and you say that I'm going to kick you. Hard.

You feel terrible about clipping liver and wasting meat...but not so much about posting a pic of raccoon feed.

I guess everyone is right, shit happens, keep flickin arrows and eventually you'll find one.

I know one thing sprigdog, bow hunting has opened up my hunting options a ton. As far as public land goes, bow hunting adds tens of thousands of acres to what I can hunt and gets me in the woods a month earlier. It really is a rush and a totally different ballgame. That said I don't think you should even think about getting in a tree with a bow if you aren't as proficient with that as with any other weapon. Perfect practice makes perfect.

This certain spot I cant gun hunt. Its in city limits. To me bow huntin is much more rewarding and harder than gun huntin. You have to time the wind right or you will get busted. Its a true challenge and I dont care if I ever kill another deer with a gun.
