    Default Home Laptop

    Need a new one.

Sticking with a windows system. Don't want to break the bank. $400 would be nice.

    Go!

HP has some good ones. Do a google search for best laptop under $400 and there are some good tech websites with in depth reviews

I just got my wife a killer deal on a refurb 17" Core i5 HP Touchscreen with hella RAM, separate graphics card with dedicated RAM, and some German sound system. It was about $600 off retail, and nearly $300 off any other refurbs we found on the same model.

Microsoft store: microsoft.com go to the education store (to save 10%) and enter your local school in the pull down menu to access the store. Their signature edition laptops come without all the BS software companies put on their machines. Also a lot of machines are shipping without DVD drives now.

These may go on sale closer to back to school or they could also sell out.

Inspiron 15 i5559-4682SLV ($499 plus 10% off at the education store)

That's pretty solid computer. I have that for work with the exception of the touch screen stuff.
