I have left this stand alone all year and I figured it was time to see what was using the area. So Sat around lunch time I put out some corn and a trail camera with the intention of giving it a week before coming back to check the camera. Well when I walked in and saw 5 really fresh scrapes on the trail I usually use to walk to this stand I figured I would hunt it Sat evening and see what happened. Well I put some Tinks69 on my boots and slipped in around 5:00pm.
I figured there would be deer bedded close by because there is thick cover all around this stand. Well around 6:15 I hit the bleat can 4 times and 3-4 mins later I heard foot steps coming my way. He came in behind the small pines to my right. When he got beside my trail cam he stopped and acted like he smelled something. He looked straight away from me and I drew my bow, settled the pin tight behind his left shoulder and sent a Carbon Express his way. He tore out running straight away from me and about 60yds away he ran head first into a 6" pine tree, breaking a couple inches off the tip of his right main beam. Dead deer. He's not big by any means and I don't do trophy management. He woulda got the same treatment if he had been a 3pt. First bow kill of the season!
