    Default Froze up

So I struck out this morning on some good intel about "big ducks".. Pretty much all of the edges are froze up and w have to break a little ice around the trees we were standing in..

The first wave or three of woodrows come through and we bust heads.. It gets quiet for a while and a hen merganser zips the decoys and is met by a load of #3s.. I go to pick her up, breaking ice the whole way.. When I see a "stump" about 6" from my right foot.. It looks awful odd and round..

Then it hits me.. Its a friggin gator snout.. But surely not in the ice huh?

Holy Santa Claus Crap, this things snout is the only thing out of the ice and its just squatting on the bottom.. I thought it coulda been dead, until my uncle pushed its nose down, with the barrel of course.. Never seen this kinda thing. I really wanted to put the barrel behind it's ear and give him another hole.. But I stuck to the law and was a good citizen.. Solid 10fter

Yall ever seen anything like this?

Oh yeah 5 woodies, 2 mergs, set a hen mallard in the decoys and her faggot boyfriend resiste.. Effin Cold

Brumation. They usually pick a better spot. Bastages have not survived for millons of years for no reason.

Did he move at all after you poked him?

I would of been cleaning out my waders

Must have been a tamie gator if he did not make an effort to go away. HAHA! if it were a duck that is what would be said. Did u use him as a confidence decoy?

All jokes aside, I would have been out of the water. Coma or frozen - I would not risk either.

Probably brumating then. He will probably be in the exact spot if you go back tomorrow/next week.

Did this spot recently flood with the rain over the weekend?

If the ice froze back over quick, then you may have off'd the bastage without a gun...

i bet he was like "what the *****!?"

biggest rattler i have ever seen at the oc was in dec at about 25 degrees. he was stretched out across the road on our way out. you could have picked him up bt the tail and set him aside like a stick.

In water that cold the sucker would have taken 25 minutes to open his jaws. He was in full slow-mo mode.
