Encountered a chicken snake, a 'black racer' and a green snake today while working around the farm. Made me wonder what I walked by and didn't see!!

That the Tiger's roar may echo.....
Next door neighbor kayaked the upper end of Jocassee yesterday with his brother. They saw FIVE copperheads.
Letting the dogs out last night, I spotted a young scarlett king laying on the porch. I didn't even know we had them at 3000' on the mountain.
Reminded me of this one a few years ago laying behind the doormat...
Saw 2 copperheads at Table Rock Saturday.
Bah! Humbug!
Pulled a 4' rat snake off of the brick ledge on the inside of the carport during a Baseball Team Party last Thursday. You wold have thought some of the women had never seen a snake before. Neighbors 150 yards away were wondering what the screaming was.
Kindof funny, with 50+ people around, Son2 looks over my shoulder and says "Dad, is that a real snake up there?"
Heard a small rattler picking wild plums on Friday night.... I'm not a fan of them at all.

I have seen more snakes this year than in the past five combined.
I got a call from the folks Friday to tell me there was a snake on the front porch.
Black racer with the most ill temper I have come across yet. Struck at me at least 30 times, and finally connected...it is hell peeling those little teeth out of your skin.
My intentions were to relocate him as someone would be sure to relieve him of his head if he remained in the area. After he bit me, I considered saving them the trouble...

From Remjob's link:
That right there is good yankee repellent.DeWayne Squires found out the hard way snakes are more active this year. One bit him on the hand as he went to pick up his golf ball Tuesday after pushing it out of bounds at Palmetto Dunes.
The Kentucky real estate broker said he felt "razor blades with electricity in them," but thought at first he just cut his finger. He tried to keep playing and couldn't, then headed to the hospital after his hand began to swell.
Intravenous antivenom and antibiotics kept things from getting worse, but doctors told Squires his arm will likely remain swollen with red, yellow and blue discoloration for a couple of weeks.
"This is not my idea of a good vacation," he said.

my kids found about a 5 foot blackie at our new home in Greer over the weekend- we named the black bitch "Myrtle" to remind us of home!

Had a "growed up one" I'm guessing about 6ft swim up to our dock on hartwell a few weeks ago. Have no idea what it was but it was black with some white markings on it's back and underbelly. We had 10 people on the dock, 6 of em kids being loud as hell and that bastard swims right under us.He had plenty of options since the cove we're on is pretty damn big, guess we were where he wanted to be. When he cleared the other side I started smacking the water about 2ft from him with a boat paddle and he just flattened out his neck and stood his ground. He was not scared of me at all. Eventually he swam off and myself and the kids took off in the boat. When we got back the wemens said he had come back and disappeared under the dock. Needless to say the kids nor the women got back in the water the rest of the day. Never seen one that unafraid of people.
I saw a report on the news that NC leads the nation in snake bites, mainly copperheads.
Saw a huge rattler laying in the road one day this past week that someone had run over. Biggest one I have ever seen.
last week while working we found either five or six at different yards. had two copperheads in one yard. Homeowner said her kid ran over the ''big one'' the day before.
Haven't seen any rattlers at a neighborhood in chapin this year. Last year DNR came out and removed a total of 28 shakytails with 7 being adults. I killed 2 before they got out there the week before with the weedeater.
Already moved two copperheads out of my yard this summer and killed one other.

I haven't seen them yet but I have found two shed skins in the back yard this summer.
Hope they're keeping the rats/mice down around here.
i'm all for letting a black snake live until he decides to act like a shitass.
or he's climbing into a bluebird house.
