Default First morning in the woods (FL)!

2010 is off to a great start! Monday morning (March 8th) I was hunting with Osceola Outdoors and I was fortunate to take a hammer with 1.5" spurs, 11" beard! He gobbled good on the roost and when he landed but he would not respond to a call. After working him quietly and carefully for an hour and a half, we gave him 45 minutes of silence and he got frustrated and stepped out at 75 yards. He saw our Dave Smith decoys and did the slow bad boy walk in. Before I let him take advantage of our Dave Smith laying hen, I hit him with some Hevi Shot coming out of my Knight muzzleloader. 15 years after my first turkey, I finally broke the 1.5" spur mark! He is going to the taxidermist.

I'm not having much luck uploading any pics, but if I can figure it out I will.

Word brother word!!! Now get them pickards up!!!!
My thoughts exactly JAB. I figure, i'll never retire, always work doing something. Rather have boats, guns now and be able to use em than to save and save and then be too out of health to enjoy it.

    Congrats! Good Bird!

Those Dave Smith Decoys is one bad ass decoy. Closest thing to a real stuffed hen.

Hart, great bird. I'm going to get me an Osceola next year come hell or high water. Good luck the rest of the year, and give me a shout if you want to hunt around here.

    Congrats!

I just found out that the bird I missed on Saturday morning was killed earlier this morning. He had 1 5/8 spurs on both legs. Boy don't I feel like an ass for screwing that one up! I'm just glad that somebody got him and he wasn't wounded to die off in the woods or something. The bird I ended up taking later that afternoon wasn't too shabby though, 1 5/16 & 1 3/8. They grow 'em big down there

Congrats again on a FINE bird!
