Clemson Ext. says after Nov. 1 is normal ag practice.

I realize that is pretty much no use for deer hunting, but I reckon I am saying dont plant in Sept-Oct. and think that it is legal to hunt doves over. Hope this helps.

Hessian fly will hurt early winter wheat which is why Clemson says plant it later. For deer hunting purposes, it will be fine.

Jab is right on with the Hessian fly. If you are planting to produce grain, early planting dates result in more top growth than later planting dates which can make the crop more susceptible to freeze injury as well. If you just want the green for deer late sept - early oct. planting is usually best.

I broadcast wheat in my peas, before running through with the cultivator, in about the second week of August. I also throw in whatever, buckwheat, millet, etc and last year a handful of zinnia seeds. It was totally cool riding my around the farm with my wife and surprising her when the zinnias started blooming. I quit treating the fields about 2 1/2 weeks before doe season (Sept 15) and it is on!
