    Default Motorguide Trolling M. ???

any of you have a motorguide pro trolling motor? I got a eye on a Pro 46# thrust but I hear they are a pain in the ass if you take your foot off the pedal and have it on constant run it will put your trolling motor into the helicopter spin because it spins within the shaft mount-- is this a problem for many of you? pros/cons?

I read where people complain that the speed jump from 4-5 gear is huge also

What do any of you have on larger size aluminum boats that you like? This will be on my 18ft War eagle

Not trying to start a MinnKota-Motorguide war- looking for suggestions

anyone have one this size or larger for sale?

I'm pretty sure that is the one I have.

    Here are my thoughts.

1.) I've got 46 pounds on a 17' Xpress. Plenty of ass for fresh water, but it sucks hind tit in a strong tide. You're salt water probably all the time, so on an 18' it would really suck. I'm talking about not even moving when you are trolling against a strong tide.

2.) I will never own a foot controlled motor again. I hate it. I'm not coordinated enough to drive with my foot and fish. If you move your foot for one second you are going in a tail spin. Also, unless the foot control is permanately mounted it goes all over the place. I take my motor on and off too much to mount it. Tiller steer all the way.

3.) The jump in gears is noticable, but not a huge problem for me.

    Ditto.

Use it to your advantage. Troll with the tide, but use the motor to slow you down enough to fish the pockets.

I have a bow mounted, foot controlled evinrude 46 lb thrust that i took off the HT 3 years ago and have never regretted that decision.

For bass fishing in fresh water nothing but a foot controlled motor, but for salt water I like a hand control, no docks to worry about. Spend the coin and get a big motor, far greater than you think you need. I've got an 82# gw digital on my 17' flats boat and its great. You dont have to use the power but when you would like it, its great.

I was a motor guide user for years and got a new bass boat with a minn kota on it. It has variable speed and 84 pounds I think. Really no comparison to the two and not trying to start a chevy v/s ford thread. Its much more quieter and has no feed back in the steering what so ever, even on high. Get one larger than you think for sure because you never know where you may be fishing in 5 years.
