Duck cutter, Do you do any formal training for squirrel dogs or do you just hunt them and encourage correct behavior? My first dog was a terrier that I actually trained with a squirrel skin wrapped dummy. I didn't realize at the time how good a squirrel dog he was. It wasn't until I got other dogs later on that I found my first was a stand-out. I practically quit squirrel hunting after hurricane Hugo when all my best spots got leveled. My property doesn't have a thriving population of gray squirrels. If it did, I'd have a squirrel dog.

The dark brown puppy is my favorite too.
I’ll put live caged squirrels in front of them at a pretty young age and I’m planning to use Jake to show them the ropes as well, but nothing replaces time in the woods on their own figuring it out.

I’m going to try my best to make mine a combo squirrel/coon dog
    Houndsmen are born, not made
