I was thinking of building a small log cabin as a hunting shack. I've seen several YouTube videos of this being done in the wilderness, some talented people out there. What I've seen is them using what appears to be some type of pine from northern areas, think Alaska/West, nothing like I've seen around here.
So my question is?? What would be the ideal tree to use from our area? I know what a white oak and red oak are, but I have a bunch of gum trees, tall straight trees. I also have some pine trees. Can they be used for beams or siding?
Anybody have any experience doing such a build with native trees?
