If that is directed at me I’ll explain myself.

Because meat tastes good. And my kids eat a lot of it.

Because mustard fried venison doesn't grow on trees?

Why would you shoot any deer? Why wouldn’t you shoot a doe that small? A deer is a deer. It’s legal. To each his own. Seems like everyone on here is a poet or snob about something. Ie redfish, deer , turkeys, bird dogs, doves, ducks, flounder etc. not to start a fight or anything. I know an old guy who will criticize if you shoot a small 8 whitetail which as a species isn’t in trouble but has no issue shooting over limit on duck species or overall bag limit. Waterfowl being migratory and in a much more precarious situation. Makes no sense.

Gotcha. If you have the time and enjoy the process, go for it. I wish I did. But for me, it just wouldn't be worth it.

    Don't get wrong, I'm envious.

When I shoot does I pick a mid-size doe, (1.5 or 2.5 yos) I may be wrong but I assume the patriarch is a successful breeder that knows how to hide her fawns. Fawns are too small to butcher.

One time that midsize was a 90# spike with 3”” spikes.

We finally have tags use them as you may. It is still just a deer. There are more hunters hunting 10 times a season than full-time and they usually aren’t selective.

If the big doe is the type to blow at me 3 times while bowhunting she deserves what she gets with a rifle. Even if I have to hear those stupid fawns bawling.

We eat a lot of ducks too.
Hoping these kids have some luck for the youth opener Saturday.
