    Default Low Country Info Request

An old friend of mine has lived and had a small business in North Atlanta for long time and he and his wife have decided to close/sell his business and retire.

They have a daughter in Charleston, and a son currently living on James Island, but who is planning on moving to Johns Island.

They would like to move to a location within an hour to Charleston if they go North or West, or an hour from Johns Island if they go SW or South, etc.

We've talked, and have no idea if his desired home and property are within his target price range or not, but would appreciate some input from those of you who know those surrounding areas.

They would like to find a place (can be older and need a little work) on 2-5 acres (or more), preferably with a larger shed or barn, although he could build one if the property and house didn't eat up his reserves. He'd like to build his workshop in part of it, and his wife would 'probably' like to have some animals... chickens, goats, etc.

His target budget is about $500K, although he could stretch that if needed. He's not planning on a mortgage unless it makes sense, or is needed to get the right place.

The last thing is that they would like to live near "some sense of community", vs just being hermits in the country.

Anyone have some good suggestions on where he might want to concentrate his search, or at least the areas to consider?

    Thanks in advance.

2-5 acres in summerville for a half mil will maybe buy them a trailer with that land. The prices are nuts at the moment.

Land in Clarendon County ain’t cheap.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

After 56 years of growing up on "the beach" and living just west of it, escaped to Georgetown area (Plantersville)a year ago and don't miss "Whorry" one bit!

Just the thought of "X wants to move to Charleston" and the answer is Adams Run. We have developed ourselves out of one hell of a geographic blessing...

ha i read "within an hour of Charleston". As someone who commuted from Edisto to Mt. Pleasant for awhile, I don't understand how people do it for an entire career.

One of the people I grew up hunting with drove from Bennetts Pt into Mt Pleasant for a very long time.

BB, I'll make a deal with you. If your uncle "T" asks I'll tell him that also.

Thanks for the input. I'll get this to Phil and see where he's at in his search/thinking, and post an update if he's looking for a more focused area.
