    Default Riding lawn mower suggestions

My early 90s John Deere Stx38 is on its last leg.

Looking to get a new riding lawn mower. Thoughts and suggestions? Trying to keep below $3k.

Need something with good part support. Just get another JD?

    Thanks!

Just avoid anything with a Koehler engine.

I have a kohler on my hustler and couldn’t be more pleased. I haven’t had any problem but that’s just me. I personally would buy another.

Koehler engine on mine is ten years old with no issues other than a stuck float on the carb one time.

For that price I'd try to find a good used zero turn.

Have you considered an electric/battery mower? Not sure if those are ready for prime time but they are making the shit out of em..

The engine in the stx38 was a Kohler I’d say it served its purpose

And no to the electric mower it is over an acre

I'm glad yall had good luck with Koehlers. I've had 2- one had 80 hours on it before it blew, the other had a little over 100.

I bought a new JD S240 last year, its the lowest end that has the 21.5hp Kawi. So far so good, only 30hrs so far but its got more than enough power and easy to work on.

Side note - this is the beginning model thats dealer specific. Wont find it in big box

I've got a Toro zero turn with a Kohler engine. Bought used on Facebook for less than 1000. Haven't had the first issue with it in five years. The guy I bought it from used it for a lawn business but it's a residential model. I'm sure it's got close to a thousand hours on it.

Same. I actually cut roughly 2 acres with it too. I go through blades like it’s going out of style though.

Whatever you get I'd recommend avoiding the "stamped" decks. Go with a fabricated one if you can.

Just left a repair shop this morning to get a part and the shop had a waiting room full of Troy Built riding mowers. I laughed and said, " Is this where you keep the ones waiting for repair or just Troy Built?" His reply, "Kinda tells you which ones not to buy right?" BTW, please open a small engine repair shop in Florence, this guy said that he is four weeks out on repairs and begged me not to drop off my mower. So much so, he diagnosed my problem with my mower on the trailer for free and sold me the parts. Said he did not have room to even store them for me to drop it off. The good news is, that I will be mowing my grass tomorrow if it is dry. Mine is a Husqvarna, not a Troy Built. MG
