I thought this might be a piece on the fabled Sunset Lodge.

Longest time I’ve spent out there was 10 days straight on a 100ft research vessel. But I did do a little commercial bottom fishing and we would go 3 days at a time. Also work overnighters on the thunderstar. I don’t know anything about a swordfish

If you can catch a catfish, you can catch a sword.

    I like an adventure.

Been in 12-14 ft seas on a 30 ft sailboat overnight from Walkers to Charleston. We were surfing the waves with a 40 knot tailwind hitting 12 knots at times. At the bottom of the waves the boat wanted to turn right or left. I never wanted to get sideways so I fought it all night. I kept hearing a twang when I fought the turn with all my strength. Probably heard 20 twangs. Lightening for hours. Mainsail tore in half. Flying fish hitting you in the chest. Torrential rain. No one but me to steer because all others were sick. 10 hour shift on the wheel with every muscle around my shoulder blades in fun spasm. My inexperience nearly cost us. I should have picked a slight angle and not fought the wave.

As soon as it got light I started trolling. Filled the cooler so much my Dad made me stop fishing.

When we arrived in Charleston we headed up to Cooper and stopped at Gilligans for lunch. I turned sharply to a restaurant and heard that twang again. It was the last strand of the steering cable popping. The Lord was with us fools.

It’s an awesome trip. However we almost got run over by a shipping container. They really do move fast and definitely do t see you or just don’t care. Fishing was great

Unless one has radar it's virtually impossible to tell how far away they are.

We used to fish the hole & come back & anchor on sw banks for the evening on some good bottom spots. If the navy is out there & asks you to move, go ahead & move. We had a carrier out near us one night & it was eventful. Also containerships make 20+knots & if u see one & can track it on radar do it. They will answer up on the vhf if you aren’t sure how close they are coming. Most have rules on CPA’s with other vessels.
