But then the feathers on his head and his back look like a GWT.
Hes dead, so who cares, I would have toted him out if he was a ivory billed woodpecker

i dont understand why there is any question that the bird is ANYTHING other than a GWT
Man and other animals were first vegetarians; then Noah and his sons were given permission to eat meat: “every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you” Genesis 9:3
"A man may not care for golf and still be human, but the man who does not like to see, hunt, photograph or otherwise outwit birds or animals is hardly normal. He is supercivilized, and I for one do not know how to deal with him." Aldo Leopold
best statement made in the thread there quack.
DM i have come to settle it.
The bird is....as Rubberhead says it is, a first year hen gwt.
Ya'll duck folk never cease to amaze me how uneducated you prove to be on the species you so dearly love.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

Just got back to this, certainly a young hen gwt, the pic isn't great will check to see if chad has more. we saw lots of woodies but this bird is way smaller and its head shape is completely different. To answer some other questions we missed a couple more and the boat is a Carsten's Pintail, one of the best investments I've ever made. I have seen GWT real close to this place before, but all the scouting before and all other teal seen while we hunted this hole were BWT. I'll see if we have another pic that shows the speculum better, it's just matted up a little there.
I have never seen another teal that had the bill spots quite like this one. Despite the way it looks in the pic the BWT is actually much bigger. Should have pics tomorrow.
well damn pitt it's about time!!!!!

I've just been wide open trying to balance work and time on the stand, etc. Never thought this little post would open such a big can of worms, but that's the net for you I guess.
this one is pretty similiar, but feel free to dissect it at your leisure
