Anyone know where to purchase or find them? Is growing them an option? I’m located in the midlands.

I’ve never seen them for purchase. I find them some years better than others. Depends on how cold and wet the winter has been. That’s in the PeeDee. Upstaters should find more. Lowcountry less common. Never heard of anyone growing them.
I find bags of them in Abbeville County. They're almost done.

TenDan - can you post some pictures of your set up? I’m very interested in growing several varieties.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

Guys a bit sketchy, he was on that Filthy Riches tv show, but he sells morels....
Things may have changed in the last year or two but I've never heard of anybody successfully cultivating morels, even though I've seen plenty of the "kits" for sale.
I grew up hunting morels in Northern MI as a kid. Opening day of trout season was the last day in April. Trout fishing and hunting morels was a sacred art.
Listen to your elders. Not because they are always right but because they have more experiences of being wrong.

Pretty sure I saw some Saturday while hunting. They seem to be more on shady sides of hills and where there’s some moss
Damp areas along creeks and rivers is where I find them.
I have found a few this year in McCormick county. Less than usual, but I think another week will be prime time. Creek bottoms near Ash trees.

I'm not planting morels. I posted the link because MM sells the spawn. I'm using oak/walnut and a variety of spawn: chicken of the woods, lion's mane, shiitake, and white oyster. One of my hippie colleagues grew commercially and I gleaned what I know from him. Drop me a PM with your number and I'll share what I know. I'm 'planting' in Berkeley County. It's not difficult but it is time consuming.
You can get the dehydrated ones from most "natural food" stores.
Good for you for getting the kids involved.
Came across some morels. Marsala morel mushroom risotto, aged ribeye with onions, morels and Marsala sauce.
