I've been pretty bummed out by all the mosquitoes that have appeared since "Florence" dropped her rain on us. However, the blackbirds appeared today and advised that first frost in the Pee Dee area will be on November 11th this year. I'm hoping they are wrong and we have a hard frost by mid-October. But I'm putting their prediction out for the public good.....

It would be easy to mistake some of these tiger mosquitos around here for blackbirds.

I note in passing that last night (10/21/18) produced a light frost on the rooftops in our area. Not the hard frost that the blackbirds predict for 11/11/18, but a welcome harbinger of fall and cooler weather. Stay tuned.....

I was travelling internationally from September 21st to 29th and may have missed an earlier appearance of the blackbirds. However I'm back home, and the blackbirds appeared in large numbers today at the farm. So based on this sighting, I will peg their prediction for first frost in the Pee Dee on November 20th. Mark your calendars!
