COLUMBIA, S.C. - Scout Boats, a designer and manufacturer of luxury coastal fishing boats, is expanding its existing Dorchester County operations. The company is adding multiple new boat models to its product catalog, bringing $10.9 million of capital investment and creating 370 new jobs.

Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Summerville, S.C., Scout Boats designs and manufactures a wide variety of luxury coastal fishing boats, including center console, dual console and bay boat models. Seems like most are just boat building jobs. Seems like it would be a fun line of work though!

Stevie is a good fella. If I can ever afford one, scout will be my next boat. The customer service I got on a friends boat at 6:45 on a Saturday evening sold me.

As the owner of 2, I'm mixed... Way too many other choices out there to go with another off-white, wet boat.

I was a huge fan of about until the last 5 years... seems they are worried about luxury over fishability these days...

Um...they branded themselves as luxury. That's their thing. Going after people that aren't afraid or can afford a luxury fishing boat. I've been on several 26+ boats...all luxurious and very fishable.

They have come along ways. Glad to see a local hometown business grow and do well.

I remember when they first rolled out, back home everyone quickly wanted one.

    They deserve this success.
