    Default New Snake Boots

Well today taught me that snake boots don't last forever. But they did last 20+ years. So I'm in the market for a new pair. My old ones were Rockys. Anybody got an opinion on whats the best boots for the money? I will need a 14 wide and hopefully they will last 20+ more years.

I just bought the new Irish Setters. (made by Red Wing)
Needed lace ups, Got the 13W and they fit just right.
Love my LaCrosse slip on rubber for deer hunting, but need lace ups for mileage.
Look around, there were some deals. I got mine at Cabela's for around 160.

You got 20 years out of a pair of Rockys?? I am amazed. I've never heard of anyone getting more than a couple years out of a pair of Rockys.

If you really want the best - especially in Sasquatch size- Russell Turkey hunt lites. Yes, they are spendy, but they will last a long time with reasonable care.

Just for info, the new Danner Pronghorn Snake Boots, which are lace-ups, also have a side zipper. Unfortunately, there appears to be a number of review complaints about the zippers not holding up. If you were interested in that boot, I'd talk to Danner first to see if they've upgraded the quality of the zipper, assuming there were enough warranty complaints to warrant it.

I don't know if they still offer that boot without a zipper.

Danner are good if you can stand a tight fit.. Their boots are made on a mold.

Russells are custom to your feet. nuf said??

I bought the Pronghorns with the zipper this year. I don't even use the zipper when taking them on and off, so not really worried about it. If you've got big boy calves you might need the zipper. It did take about 20 miles of walking to break them in. The ankles were tight as hell to begin with. They haven't been put to the test with water or snakes yet.

    Russell, Chippewa, Danner.

I am on my second pair of the Chippewa snake boots and have zero complaints out of them. I don't own a pair of Danner snake boots but I do own some other boots by Danner and they may be the most comfortable boot I own. I don't own Russell's, but will one day probably after my current Chippewas die.

The 4th generation Danner's, which is how they refer to their new models, have a wider footbox, per their CS Rep. Check their web site for info on it.

I'm trying to decide if I want to go with the Sharptail slip-ons or stick with my Pronghorns.
