If you don't put them up you need to start. I saw a pair of ducks this morning in a tree in my back in down town Summerton. The hen was looking for a hole to nest in. I watched her for a few minutes from my window as she flew from branch to branch looking for a good spot to lay. We have less nest trees now than ever before for ducks to use. The main reason is because there is not much of a market for hardwood logs and big demand for hardwood pulpwood so hardwood rotations are much shorter not allowing time for trees to mature and have a cavity big enough to nest in. Another reason was hurricane Hugo.
You don't have to have some big piece of land with a pond on it for ducks to use boxes those ducks will nest just about anywhere even your back yard.
