I'd like to plant some here soon for ducks. Moist soil on the side of a slight hill. Looking at gobbler sawtooth versus water oaks. Maybe a mix of both.
Any recommendations, or where I can buy them locally? Thanks

As long as it will take to grow I would just start from the acorn.

Go with Gobbler.. Gobbler will produce the fastest some trees throw in about 5 years. I would buy from a reputable web dealer and have them shipped.. I don't know of anyone in my coastal area that specializes in such.
Check this video out if you are concerned over the size of nut a wood duck can ingest.

Thanks Strick. Jenks sent me some really good info too. I am going to try planting more than needed sawtooths in tubes, since I can't check on them often. I will try some water oaks also closer to the swamp.

Buy from SC. Call Hallman Farm in Little Mountain. 866-295-8733. They got what you need. Screw Mossy Oak and their crappy, overpriced trees.

McMakin in Lyman might have some.
The sawtooths at my spots produce way too big of acorn for a duck.

SC forestry commission 1000 seedlings for $300.
I buy everything from hallmans. They will ship them right to you and they are very helpful

Thanks all. One more thing. There are quite a few beavers in this swamp. Do they generally leave oaks alone? I have some hogwire, and I plan to wrap the existing oak trees. Good idea, or wasting my time? I have only seen one large oak they have gotten to.
Not close enough to hunt or trap them regularly either.
I put chicken wire around the trees I want to save that are on the banks of the beaver swamp.
That is Buttonbush and though waterfowl do eat the seeds you won't exactly see them fighting over it as a desirable food source. It does have a very pretty bloom though.
