    Default Pirogue

Have any of you ever made a pirogue? I am thinking about making one and want to see if there are any boatwrights on here who have made one before. The big question is what plans did you use? I have seen what's out there and the basic LSU Extension plans but are there any that stick out that are that much better?

I made the uncle johns pirogue. Www.unclejohns.com. Cajun pirogue kit. Fun project and you can customize it however you want. Mine is 11-1/2 ft. Very light. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Seeing these soulless vanilla ice lookin Yankees on a bassboat is worse than watching a woman get her implants taken out. It's just wrong. Get back in your Lund and go back to infisherman.

Uncle Johns was my first built. After that I built my own. I've built 3. Ain't nothing to building one, just don't get too crazy with glass and resin or it'll be to heavy. Stitch n Glue method will make it even lighter.

Griffin I know you gotta be better than that in a 'rogue. lol

The more significant question is, how do you pronounce it? I've heard people rhyme it with anything from hoagie to pirloo

I've built a couple from the Uncle Johns kits. Really, the only thing you need out of the kit is the bow and stern blocks. They have the complex angles already cut and from there you can make the length whatever you like. Scarfing the plywood together was the worst part of the whole build for me. I did stitch and glue on mine and it worked great.

The pronunciation is based on what part of Louisiana you're in. I always heard "pee-row" until I moved to Chalmette back in 2003. Most of the folks I hunted with in the South Eastern part of the state pronounced it "pee-rawg" so that's what I've always stuck with.
Living in Moncks Corner but looking forward to moving back to the West Coast in 2020 where there are more ducks and less duck hunters!! LOL

Free advice here..... Dog gets beat with paddle in head until they lay down and stay down.
My educated guess is the hound is the reason you capsized?

Gotta teach 'em early. They'll learn to ride high and dry or they get tossed and have to swim after you. Mine learned quick how to ride in a pee rawg. (that's a round bottom by the way, y'all need to give one of them a whirl someday)
