install at the lowest point in the pond.
embed the riser a little to ensure complete draining of the pond.
pack the fill dirt around the pipe as you backfill.
ensure you have enough pipe to transect the entire dike base.
install riser as close to the ponds inside dike as you can
concrete in bottom of riser or pour a slab under base to attach it to (prevent it from floating up).
I could go on and on....
Make it as beaver proof as possible right now. It is a huge pain in the ass fighting them while trying to drain a pond.
Put a hog wire fence around it to keep the beavers out......and make sure the fence goes across the top too. You can hold the top on with zip ties for easy removal when you maintain the riser.
invite a friend that owns a trackhoe
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.
Friend with duck pond - Check.

Tip - a bucket of dried out horse sh*t is your friend when you go to fill the pond. You will have leaks between and around the flashboards. When the pond is full, drop the sh*t in front of the flashboards and then watch what happens. Presto - no more leaks.
If the leaks are too big for the sh*t to stop, use cedar shingles as shims between the flashboards and the channels they ride in. Use pieces to help to wedge the boards tight and seal then against the channel to form a semi-water tight seal. Remember, you will need to get the wedges back out when you pull the flashboards, so leave a gap between the shim and back of channel so you can pry them out. After shimming, reapply the sh*t.
Good Luck.
The only good thing about my imperfections is the joy they bring my friends.
Beware the man with one gun...he probably has other faults also.
Anybody got a source for saw dust in the upstate?
