Default Anybody ever had their dog die suddenly?

I mean like one minute she's walking around and next minute gone.

Let my little beagle mix out this morning when I got up, looked out the door a minute later, and she was collapsed on her side. Checked her mouth/throat, no obstructions. She gasped a couple of times far apart, not sure if that was just automatic air leaving the body - but she was totally limp and no eye movement.

I didn't see the need for the vet to do an autopsy. I just assume it was a sudden heart or brain issue.

She was a good little dog for 11 years, slept beside me every night. I'll miss her but I'm glad she went quick - that's the way to go whether dog or person.

My uncle's English Pointer suddenly died when I was about 6..

He tried to bite me through the fence and my uncle suddenly shot him in the top of his head..

Sorry to hear it, CRowland... but glad she went quickly.

It happened to my last hunting dog and 'shadow' years ago, but it took him about 8 1/2 hours on a Sunday morning. We didn't figure out what was actually happening until the last hour or so and by then it was too late.

In your dog's case it could have been something like a burst internal tumor, or any of a number of other things that Glenn could explain.

    Temic?

    Sorry for your loss.
Listen to your elders. Not because they are always right but because they have more experiences of being wrong.

    That's what I was thinking..

    Might have gotten into something..

Definitely a bad day.. And if you didn't like that dog, he probably would have lived to 20..

    no on the parvo.

    Not sure what temic is...

probably something to do with the brain- tumor broke into a blood vessel causing a stroke, without the necropsy its impossible to tell.

I hate to hear you lost your friend. Pour something brown over ice tonight and thank the man upstairs for the blessing that dogs are. Prayers sent for upstairs for your family

EIC can do this. But to make it to 11 years old, makes me think otherwise.

Sorry for your loss. Losing a dog is never easy, no matter how old they are

It happened to my guy a few years back. He was 7 years old, in great shape, and trained regularly. He was also a littermate to a NAFC. I let him out in the back yard, some lady was walking her foo-foo dog down the road and my guy was barking at them. He kind of flinched, and collapsed. I ran out to him and tried CPR, but he was already gone. It happened on a Sunday, so I decided against an autopsy. Every vet and medical person I talked to said more than likely it was an embolism or aneurism of some sort. FWIW, He meant a lot to me, and his ashes will be spread with mine when I go. Sorry to hear about yours.

My Lab did the same thing at 12. Just keeled over and died. Doing fine one second, gone the next.

I cant think of a better way to lose a dog. Sorry for your loss. Watching them fight "the end" is heart wrenching.
