Watch out if they start losing nails on different feet. Could be SLO. My dog has it. Probably allergies though.

If the vet says allergies, I would start there. My first place to start if you didn't want to do testing would be to eliminate corn from the diet. It will take a few months to know if that is the culprit. Talk with your vet about it. Another question would be cleaning products inside...do you have carpet and use the powder? I had one yars ago that would itch all over if I used it...try plain baking powder and maybe plugins fot scent?

Mine did the foot eatin too. I switched food to Purina Pro Plan which lists meat as #1 ingredient and it helped both dogs with the scratching and what not. I think its one of the less expensive "good" foods at around a buck n a quarter a pound I believe, I little less if you buy the 30+ pound bag.

It could be a yeast infection also.

My brother has a beagle that started this the day they brought their first kid home from the hospital.....now, when the kids go to camp for 2 weeks the dog's paws completely heal. They come home, right back to the licking and chewing.

my Aussie does that some and most likely allergies. She gets a steroid shot and maybe cortisone? during bad seasons. Helps a lot for a few weeks. They said fleas are pretty common allergies.

Switch to a grain free food. I have a Shepherd that scratches her feet when she gets ahold of any grains.

If you have an older dog, it may be arthritis.

More than likely, it's allergies. Is it bad after it rains or all the time?

What a few others have said....go to a grain free food. It will take several weeks or more before you see any changes, so don't feed it to her/him for a couple of days and then row your hands up when nothing changes. Be sure to read the labels just bc meat is listed as the first ingredient doesn't mean corn or soy isn't down the list somewhere.

Blue buffalo, evo, hi-tek naturals, and purrina pro plan grain free are some popular ones that have a good protein/fat ratio

We changed from Blackwood 2000 to Earth born holistic food for our lab. After the switch, her allergies got better. We also gave her 1 (1000 gram) fish oil pill every other day.

My dog had very similar symptoms and come to find out it was an allergy developed from the food. we fed her Iams thinking it was a good quality food. We were informed that if the foods first ingredients are corn, wheat or soy, it is a good possibility that it can create an allergy in the dog. Try switching foods that the main ingredients are a meat of some type with no byproducts. Good luck with your situation. It took us several months to get ours corrected.
