Sandy Bay's Lead Counsel, Atty, moved on to the big duck blind in the sky today. When I got her 12.5 years ago, she filled an empty hole that her uncle Jake left when he disappeared.
She moved all over this state with me through the years, from Columbia,
To charleston,
Now orangeburg, and we managed to kill some birds every now and again
She qualified in hunt tests, but due to hip issues she would qualify so I didn't breed her. She was still my hunting dog regardless, even though I knew her hips would last as long as most. A few years ago I took her to the delta, knowing her hunting days were almost done. She retrieved the only duck that day, my only black and her last bird.
She the retired to the back yard, as watchdog and friend to my kids.
Earlier this year she had an inoperable cancerous tumor, and the doc gave her 3 months. She gave us almost a year. About a week ago she started hacking and struggling for air. I couldn't think of her slowly suffocating so today was her last tomorrow. Told the kids and I don't know who is in worse shape. I'm gonna miss the ole girl.
Rest in peace, Atty girl. Fill your lungs with heavens air from now on.
I love you and Godspeed ole girl.
