“… duckhunting stands alone as an outdoor discipline. It has a tang and spirit shared by no other sport—a philosophy compounded of sleet, the winnow of unseen wings, and the reeks of marsh mud and wet wool. No other sport has so many theories, legends, casehardened disciples and treasured memories.”
--John Madson, The Mallard, 1960
"Never trust a duck hunter who cares more about his success than his dog's."

When we ran 44'ers, i spent 22 hours in nearly identical conditions going on at the Ed buoy right now..and like you Jab, i swore off boats..for 8 hours..thats how much time my boss gave me to sleep when i got back..fucker. He had to come in and stand duty and it was a sunday.
I was black and blue from armpit to hip on both sides..rocking back and forth in the helm chair. It took me 5 days just to feel somewhat normal again.

Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
