I would bet that Bass kill more summer ducks each year than coons.

SNAKES! Damn Snakes and that is why you should kill them all! And now Bog is going to rip me a new one for wanting to kill snakes but guess what....... I don't care b/c I don't like snakes! I will run and scream like a little school girl and will lock myself in the car to hide from them! FACT! And I'm not to proud to tell the www.
You've got one life. Blaze on!
When racoons try to get on our back porch, Momma just chase 'em off with a broom.
you have broken the law! You are supposed to release them back into the wild! Once on your back porch they must be kilt!
You've got one life. Blaze on!
If I kill a raccoon, it aint for the sake of killing, although I have perfected the practice. They destroy my sweetcorn, therefore I've gotta problem with 'em. And we already know the damage they do to the duck and song bird population.Killing any native animal for the sake of killing is a practice perfected by those with little to no respect for wildlife and their niches, and no education in biology.
when did they start helpin?Raccoons aren't hurting the wood duck population
In my previous posts, I was speakin of nesting/ brood rearing habitat for wood ducks.South Carolina has enough habitat to winter millions of coots, ducks, and geese.
Compared to what? yea, I believe if I were at Jab's place at the right time it would be nothin short of amazing, but that's not your typical private pond.Private duck hunting in South Carolina is phenomenal. Don't believe me? Ask JABIII, or stand at Bennetts Point at dawn and look up.
I might could understand your angle if the raccoon population was on the decline. It'd be somewhat on the same level as your theory on killing rattlers and other venomous snakes. But it ain't...
Fire away Bog, in the meantime Ima go find my pen and notepad.

for the record, i will kill a coon in a trap.
are there more wood ducks in this state than coons?
1.Who would've thought that if you place a buffet of corn in a coon's backyard, he'd wind up eating it. What a stupid animal. Surely he knows he risks getting his head blown off, and eats the corn just to spite you.
2. Be more specific....You said habitat.
3. The raccoon population could double and wood ducks would be fine.
4. Search the archives regarding venomous snakes. Anybody with a lick of sense agrees, killing rattlesnakes for the sake of killing is downright idiotic.
Squatty gets a pass. I don't worry about him killing snakes......he's too much of a puss to get within a shovels length of one.

Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

Private land duck hunting in SC is absolutely great.

So what part of the ecosystem are wood ducks causing to become unbalanced? What's funny, is that the absence of wolves caused the decline of Aspen trees in Yellowstone. Chew on that for a minute.

I always thought raccoons were hell on quail and turkey eggs.

If it wasn't for predators, wooducks would waddle around like dodo birds. Does that make sense? Predators shape the prey, and vice-versa. To wonder what predator species "do" for prey species reveals a fundamental failure to comprehend the natural world.
