The doves are not in the field today like they have been. Went from 300 or so this week to about 10 today.

20 something guys, had to have a field to be a member, and had to provide snacks after the hunt at your field?

Am I supposed to yell, "BIRD" as loud as I can every time I see one?

I know. I was joking! You kill a limit today?

I killed 5 at a public field. Could honestly have shot a limit if I'd practiced on clays last week. I clipped probably half a dozen that sailed a bit and someone else finished them.

I shot 2 boxes lol. Oh well. It was a good time.

They did a great job on the field I hunted. Non stop shooting from 12 to 5:59

No, I got up limbs, cut grass, then sprayed herbicides in my yard. I'm going to go one day before long.

Has several rallies on a public field. Went out an and hunted a public field and the biologists that was there has a little safety meeting. One guy asked what the limit of birds was and a group just below myself and my brothers would call out bird and proceed to throw every shell they had at some tweety birds and some swallows.
“Duck hunting gives a man a chance to see the loneliest places …blinds washed by a rolling surf, blue and gold autumn marshes, …a rice field in the rain, flooded pin-oak forests or any remote river delta. In duck hunting the scene is as important as the shooting.” ~ Erwin Bauer, The Duck Hunter’s Bible, 1965

We all need to do it more often. I had fun and that's all that matters.

Had I shot clays beforehand I'd have killed more. But I didn't have much faith in the hunt being good enough to be worth that effort, based on the last few years.

Glad to have been wrong this time.

Didn't wanna start another thread to ask this:

Do dove clubs ever accept new members? I'm ate-up with it and willing to pay whatever for a membership. I'm in Georgetown but I'm willing to travel wherever necessary to shoot. Holler.

They are like most private clubs. Rarely will they accept a new member unless they are well know to some member who will vouch for and sponsor them. Even then, dove club memberships are so sought after that you have to wait for a member to die or a very bad season to create an opening the next year.

Instead of overtly looking to join a club, work on getting invited as a guest and then quietly inquire about the possibility of getting on their waiting list. When you go on the hunt, bring along a big batch of one of your best recipes to share. I've had smoked chicken wings, smoked venison snack sticks, jerky, etc. from guests and it certainly made them more memorable when it came time to pick an inductee.

I don't know anything about the club but it is in a really good area for doves.

Some members here are in or have been in the past.
