Default Anyone here own a tow truck business?

How difficult would it be to start a tow truck business today and be successful?
Does it require a CDL and what how bad would the insurance be? I壇 imagine the insurance would be pretty high. I知 sure there are many other cost including an actual truck and yard that I知 not aware of.

As I sat on the side of 95 Sunday at 10pm getting turned down by every tow truck company I could google, it dawned on me that there is a void. I thought this field was heavily saturated, but I知 beginning to wonder. My job is in jeopardy due to the Union winning their court case against the port of charleston, so naturally I知 exploring other ways to earn a living.

No CDL for your regular rollback/tow truck. Insurance is expensive & make sure you add on hook coverage & garage keepers coverage if you are storing them. All I got...

I got towed from Earth Fare in Windermere to our house behind the muni for $200 a couple weeks ago, there is definitely a market for you down here.

Insurance is obtainable but higher than camel ass for a startup operation. You’re going to be looking at a progressive or navigators program at anywhere from 12-20k a truck for enough coverage to get on a rotation with the sCHP or AAA.

I can put you in touch with a guy that’s doing it now if you wanna pick his brain. He’s doing rollback and heavy equipment recovery with a rotator.

I've looked into this several times.. Basically CO-part helps you buy the truck, you run the business side of it. They send you a quota of what you need to pick up for them per day, usually 4-5 cars that makes the truck payment, and you can run that truck for your business 24hrs, as long as you meet their quota daily. They will also send you all the work you want through them.

    https://www.copart.com/content/us/en/truckinabox

This is a text from a guy I know that looked heavily into it with me:

"The offer they gave me last August was for a brand new 2023 International or Hino. The contract was for 5 loads a day, Mon - Fri for 5 years. That covered the finance on the truck. They said that they would help me secure other contracts to make my money. I could do as many loads as I wanted daily, but had to do at least 5 a day Mon-Fri."

I ended up not going that route as my employment changed for the better and I no longer needed to search for something extra. That's the only reason I don't own one now.

If you do five a day when in the hell would you have time to do any more?

I bet "repo man" will be a lucrative trade here in the not too distant future.

Northern aggressors. Next thing we'll read is "garden/water hose" in place of hose pipe.

I blame the lack of garden hose water exposure on people like this...

I own a reposession company. The cost of trucks are high and the insurance is even worse. Average cost is 18,000 per truck. You can do good on rotation if your in the right area.
