Hawk vs Decoy

Had a hawk absolutely crush my hen decoy this morning. He and I both looked at each other confused before he flew away. I find it disturbing that with the abundant other food sources a hawk would try and take a full size hen.

Replace bald eagle with hawk and I can relate. That eagle hit my decoy so hard they both rolled on the ground several times. I don’t know which one of us was more surprised. The really cool thing was the eagle’s mate was sitting in a tree and swooped in for the coup de grace. It pulled up at the last second after realizing something wasn’t quite right.
