Default Drone activity on private property

Last weekend I was bushhogging corn and milo stalks at my property and noticed a medium sized drone hovering around where I was working. It took me a few seconds to realize exactly what it was and get the tractor stopped, by then it was gone. I am positive it was a black 4 propeller drone maybe 12-14” across, which was 200+ yards inside the property line. I don’t have any proof, nor do I have any pictures and really can’t determine which landowner it was because there are 2 adjoining tracts that merge nearby.
This could be just a kid playing with a new toy and an isolated incident, I have no clue. But the longer I think about it, the more irritated I get. What are the laws/regulations/etc with drone activity? My problem revolves around the potential photography, trespassing, possible harassment of game and livestock, not to mention an invasion of privacy. If this happens again, what are my options? Who do I contact? Local sheriff? DNR? I’ve heard social media stories of someone shooting down trespassing drones and also heard stories of criminal charges being filed against the shooter, but don’t know if any of that was true. A quick google search showed some laws regarding law enforcement’s use of drones, but nothing on private citizens.

Do you own the air around and above your property?

Catdaddy, Im not sure its that simple.

Take a look at 14 CFR Part 107 Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems. This reg applies to non-recreational drone flyers.

Drone flyers that are exclusively flying for recreational purposes are still subject to USC 44809.

Take a look… theres a good bit covered in those regulations.

Drones can be much more intrusive IMO.

He doesn’t but drones get old. Had one hovering 30 yards above my backyard at camp a few years back. It is an invasion of privacy. I have a drone and wouldn’t think of doing that. If I run mine it’s way up and I rarely use it.

Drones 0.55lbs and above have to be registered with the FAA. If you shoot it you have now shot an aircraft.

It would not surprise me if they didn’t try to charge you with indecent exposure or something, even if it’s on your property. This BS is getting out of hand. Had a buddy of mine back during deer season sitting in the stand and had one hover over him for 30 mins. He never could figure out where it came from.

This is one of those things that can get your name added to the local sex offenders list.

Thanks, I had not heard about that. Sounds like it would be expensive
