    Default Turkey Tags

Just got mine in the mail! As a reminder, looks like it needs to be reported online this year by end of day.

    https://www.dnr.sc.gov/turkeyharvest/

    Seems redundant combined with tags.

I don't think it's meant to be redundant. It my understanding the tags allow you to legally harvest and transport the bird. The online report provides state biologist with information on harvest. Gotta make the reporting mandatory, or nobody would do it , And thus, no data.

It's been that way since 2022.

Then why not have it where you complete a sheet of paper for the harvest prior to moving and report within 24 hours (or online report prior to moving). Would save a lot of effort with all the tags in the mail etc.

Tags and online reporting are redundant and annoying.

Do away with tags, save money, kill bird, report, get conf# for transport, taxidermist etc.

Not really. Most states with an online check-in/app have had the good sense to do away with tags. But true to form SC thinks a round wheel is just too simple and effective of an idea and needs to flat spot it in at least one place.

Does anybody really and truly want to have to notify the .gov when they kill a turkey?

I reckon the same way they know now if you've tagged it or not.

Better be careful. They collect your DNA when you do.

They wouldn't, but if you were caught they would issue a citation. Not much different than not tagging and reporting.

In Florida, we have the option to either fill out a sheet of paper prior to moving (then reporting within 24 hours) or to or report online prior to moving. Telecheck wouldn't work as you don't always have signal.

I dont have a problem calling it in. If you were checked and there was a tag missing from the tag card they could check to see if you had called it in I guess. Been checked one time in 20 years turkey hunting (last year during a raging thunder storm).
