We are seeing it big time on the West Coast. They closed the abalone season completely years ago. Salmon season was shut down two years ago. This past year they closed the Near Shore bottom fishing for lingcod and rock cod after about 2 months when the season is normally 8 months long. Now it looks like they're going to shut down the sturgeon fishing. At this rate all recreational fishing will be closed in another 20 years!

As one friend told me “I know I’ll get caught one day but by that time the price per snapper will be pretty low.” Just carry on but be ready to pay the piper when the time comes.

My friend says the same. A filleted carcass sent back down on a descender doesn't seem to attract sharks like one tossed on the surface, and it's less conspicuous when the crowd that runs 30 miles just to fish within 50 yards of other people is around, too.
