Man charged after 3 hunting dogs shot, killed, South Carolina DNR officials say

PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. —
South Carolina wildlife officers have made an arrest in a case of hunting dogs killed, officials said Tuesday.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources said three beagles, called rabbit-hunting dogs, were reported shot and killed on Nov. 23, 2023, in the Dacusville area of Pickens County.

SCDNR officers arrived on the scene after the dogs' deaths were reported and collected evidence, officials said.

David Andrew Healy, of Pickens County, was arrested on Saturday and charged with three counts of ill-treatment of animals, first offense, and one count of entry on another’s land without permission to hunt, fish or trap, first offense.

The ill-treatment charges are felony offenses that each carry a potential penalty of up to five years and a $5,000 fine, if convicted, according to officials.
