Default Need a GOOD 2-Stroke Mercury mechanic....

Preferably in the Coastal region or up to the Midlands...older Mercury 115 2+2, where two cylinders deactivate at a particular RPM and dont have an idle circuit. Idles fine but acts like it hits a rev limiter and cuts out above 4.5k. Will run all day at 4k like a top.

Father is in his 80's now and has been fiddling with his boat motor for a month or two. I can fix most all things Yamaha and OMC but know absolutely nothing about these black motors. Would like to take it in and get it fixed for him before its time to be back on the lake this Spring.

Anybody still working on these older 2 strokes that y'al would reccommend?

    Thanks

Manning Turner or Matt Springs in Gtown. PM me and I’ll give you a contact if you’re interested.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

first thought is high speed coil / stator under the flywheel.
Pop flywheel off and see if one of the stator coils/windings are burnt looking and plastic coating all cracked.

Take a timing light and put it on a plug wire and have some one drive the boat while someone
watches the timing light, I bet the light shows the spark fall off at WOT.
Do this on each plug wire
If so, the stator is most likely your issue

I believe that motor also has a "rev limiter" module mounted on the powerhead.
Is it plugged up and you may be able to Google how to test it
