Wow was released and banded not far from where it was taken.

Think that guy has a false sense of how “good” duck hunting is in SC?

Wonder how many people that help make the rules in SC have a different view on how good SC duck hunting has become?

Curious if the release birds ever breed with wild birds?
“Duck hunting gives a man a chance to see the loneliest places …blinds washed by a rolling surf, blue and gold autumn marshes, …a rice field in the rain, flooded pin-oak forests or any remote river delta. In duck hunting the scene is as important as the shooting.” ~ Erwin Bauer, The Duck Hunter’s Bible, 1965

I've never hunted Two Ponds and don't know if you'll even need waders but just in case you find yourself in the water to retrieve ducks or set decoy, etc., one rarely mentioned piece of optional duck gear is a wading staff.

It can be challenging keeping your balance while wading over flooded crop rows and you never know where those quarter drain ditches are. A staff will help you keep your balance and can be used like a blind person's cane to probe for ditched and holes. I use one made from regular wooden closet rod with two 1/4" fiberglass pegs sticking out of the sides of the top end at 45 degree angles, one upward and one downward. The upward one serves as a hanger for my gun sling or gear bag if I need to free up my hands. Just jam the staff into the mud and hang up stuff. The downward peg can be used to reach for decoy lines, downed ducks in the weeds, etc. The staff is about 4 feet long. A short lanyard loop on the top end lets me free up my hands without turning loose of the staff. I keep one in my truck bed year round to reach stuff that rolled under the toolbox.

You can thank me when you come back from wading with dry clothes.

Had a good time. Blind limit in just over an hour. Lotta ringers. Need recipes and cleaning tips now.

    first tip:
dont listen to a freaking soul about what ringers taste like and how hard they are to clean. (not a joke)

and congrats on the band (joke)

just the tip (definitely a joke)

and be sure to use dales to piss off fish. (not a joke)

    hope this helps

    Easy one for Ringnecks:

    Breast the bird

Marinate for 30 min to 1 hr in low sodium soy sauce
coat one side of duck breast with brown sugar
coat alternate side with fresh chopped rosemary

    grill rare-mid rare

Country fried ringnecks, mashed taters and gravy with some LeSueur peas. Real trashy, real delicious.

I've had good success using divers in a Shephards Pie. Flash fry the nuggets, make a red wine gravy with crumblies. Add your root veggies to gravy let it simmer slow and low. Make some garlic mashed taters with sour cream. Add duck nuggets to gravy. Pour in pan then cover with mashed taters. Add cheeses of choice on top. I used to make this for some club dinners and there wasnt a bit left over at the end.

Blind limit? Does that mean someone shot their limit and then shot into your bag limit also?

Regardless, I'm glad you had a good time.

We’ve laughed about that for a few days.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.
