    Default Dog Getting Carsick

I’ve noticed something recently with the pup in the last two weeks since we’ve started hunting a little bit. It seems like every time he takes a ride in the dog box he gets out with an upset stomach ( case of the runs). He’ll be fine beforehand but as soon as he gets out of the box it hits him. I’m sure as he becomes accustom to riding in the box it should go away with time, or at least I’d hope so. But in the meantime it’s a little aggravating and distracts him from hunting. Is there anything I can give him or do for him before loading up to help with this problem?

Not sure on that one. I had a lab that would puke every time she rode in the car outside her dog box. In her box she was fine. Hope it works itself out

Put in the dog crate for short periods of time, when you aren't going anywhere. Also carry him on some short trips, like to the store and back.

    Obviously

He’s not 100% turned on as far as hunting goes yet, but he’s on the right path. Given time, after he is more accustomed to the box, as the drive to hunt increases and he realizes the box is part of the hunt I believe it’s going to take care of itself

Catdaddy may have the solution to expedite the process, I really hadn’t thought of driving him around just for the sake of it .

Maybe he doesn't like breathing all the exhaust.

    cause and effect?

i am not sure carsick can cause diarrhea. nausea, maybe?

    i'd ask a chiropractor.
    or the internet.
last resort, I may ask a vet.

Do you ever put the dog in a crate other than riding in the truck? It may be getting stuffed into a box that makes him nervous and not necessarily the ride.

My dogs have crates they can get in any time they want. It becomes their comfort zone and safe space. I try to never use it as punishment.

Exhaust might be a factor too, as mentioned. You might try stringing a rope across the back and leaving the tailgate down. That might help with ventilation and also give him more of a view. A view of the horizon is about the only thing that helps me with sea-sickness. Maybe he needs a view.

We had a beagle once. She never crapped in the truck but dang if she didn't fart a lot when riding. Smelled bad enough to knock a buzzard off a gut pile.

Ralph and his dad threw up once when the dog farted in the truck.

Sounds like it may be complicated.

$18k deposit and we can run some test, bloodwork, radiographs, maybe an ultrasound or two.

Or you can get some dudes from church to volunteer to look at it on a Saturday.

Pffttt. Vets aren’t even real doctors are they? Or is that dentists?
