I want gas and am leaning tankless. wife says she’s heard tankless doesn’t get as hot.
school me. Those that HAVE tankless gas, would you go back?

They are good and they get plenty hot. Buy from a plumbing supply house and not a big box.
I have 3 gas tankless systems in My house. Two In the garage that feed the mater bath and kitchen and one In the attic that supplies the kids bathrooms and guest bathroom. I didn’t design it that way, prior owner did when he built the house
All are set on 120* temp and plenty hot.
It is nice with 5 people in the house, never running out of hot water…..
We got a rennai tankless gas heater and it is plenty hot. I got girls and it is nice to have constant hot water.
Tankless here for ten years. No issues. It's amazing. It is plenty hot.
ok now, what kind of annual maintenance do you have to do on them?
“descaling?”

Descaling is the only thing I'd do once a year. It's a simple process you can do yourself.
I have tankless gas and have had no issues with it. Gets plenty hot enough. That being said, we had a traditional electric water heater in our previous house. Had no issues with it either. If mine was already plumbed and wired for an electric water heater, I don’t know that I would go through the expense of putting a tankless gas one in. I would probably just swap a new one in and roll. Price of tankless heater, installation, and then propane/gas will negate just about any electricity savings and take a long time to break even.
We had a Navian tankless installed at our last house....it was awesome and if I ever get natural gas here, I will definitely go back.
It absolutely gets the water hot and was very efficient.
