    Man brings cocaine through courthouse security, is charged

    DURHAM, N.C. - A man was charged with cocaine possession after he emptied his pockets for security while entering the Durham County Courthouse.

    James Lamar Green, 20, took out his keys and coins and what officers said appeared to be a bag of cocaine Wednesday.

    The arrest report said Green told officers he didn't know the substance, which tested positive for cocaine, was in his pocket.

    It's unusual for people to try to bring drugs to the courthouse, but it happens.

    "Occasionally, we find drugs when people forget," said Sheriff's Maj. Lucy Zastrow. "It seems like every few months, every now and then, (people) forget they have their stash in their pocket and just plop it down."

    Green was awaiting trial on a break-in charge from last year and pleaded guilty this month to a charge of carrying a concealed weapon and was given 12 months probation.
