Default School me on 300 blackout

Looking at guns, mainly AR platform guns. Buddy has one he said he’d cut me a deal on. Every gun I’ve ever owned was either a pistol, hunting rifle, or shotgun. I’m not up to date on the lingo, or even makes/models of these guns. He has a Spikes Tactical 300 blackout. Gun looks very well taken care of. He said he just doesn’t shoot it. Learn me something here. Is ammo easy to find, etc?

I’ve got an AR. Have both the .300 blackout and 5.56 uppers that are interchangeable. Will be posting it for sale with ammo here soon

Never really shot it but I’m subsonics you want to keep your target within 100 yards for sure.

Think slightly weaker .30-30 in an AR platform and keep you shots within reasonable range.

Ammo is currently easy to find, though many will be subsonic (for use with a suppressor). Might be best run as fast as you can sling it in lightly constructed bullets if you want to hunt with it.

What do intend to do with it?

It was designed for the military to be used in quiet, close-in work, using subsonic rounds and a suppressor, while also having the ability to fire supersonic rounds. It uses all the same components as 5.56 AR 15s, including the magazines, with the only difference being the barrel. It also allows you to use shorter barrel lengths 6-9in are most common, so it makes a great home defense gun.

Mainly home defense, and some target shooting occasionally. Not real keen of spending a ton on one, if it’s limited in its capabilities

Me and my child have really enjoyed the caliber. Easy shooting with almost no recoil and quiet when run with a suppressor. We've used these rounds with success.

I have one I hunt with. I shoot 190 grain subsonics for close range/stalking (Lehigh controlled chaos) and 110 grain for longer shots. Mine is an SBR with a 10.5 " barrel that I always shoot suppressed. It's a very ergonomic gun that is comfortable to carry. I've killed several deer with it out to 225 yards. I can reliably ring the 8" gong at 300 yards.

The main draw for this cartridge is the ability to cycle in an AR with both subsonic and supersonics without having to make any adjustments. If you're not planning to shoot suppressed, there are better choices.

If you have a suppressor, it's a great caliber. If you don't (or don't intend to get one), buy something else.

This... If you want to shoot super sonic unsuppressed 300aac, just get a AR10 and shoot 308. Honestly, if I did not have one, I might look at the 350 legend. That is a neat round.

Will kill anything in SC within a reasonable range, 100-200 yards, like most shots are.

Just gave a new toy a test run. My other 300BO AR has a 10.5" barrel with a Vortex LPVO, while the new one has a Ballistic Advantage 8.3".

I shot the 10.5" last weekend using Hornady 190gr Sub-X with zero issues in a carbine gas system with H2 buffer, suppressed. I also ran it in a 16.25" Ruger American Ranch and I think it was quieter than any of my 22 bolt guns. Both 190 & 220 ran fine & quiet in both.

This little thing shot great with the SB Tactical PDW buffer system using 220gr StealTH ammo. I'd love to find some of the 190 Sub-X to reload.

I did attempt the SiCo Omega 36M in the "short" configuration, and wasn't overly thrilled; 2" makes a pretty substantial difference.

I'm beginning to believe modular suppressors are more of a gimmick that just has more moving parts which could later become problematic failure points.
