First, the important thing is that Jake had a “100 day scan” last week, and is cancer free. So, praise the Lord.

Now, to the fun. VaTransplant Duck Hunter brought his 10 year old son William (a fine young man) to our place on the Black River Sunday, and Bug Buster and crew brought the hounds. The weather was tough, as it rained up until 7 am, the hogs hadn’t moved Sat night, and made finding the swine very difficult. We stayed the course, and finally found a 200lb red boar in a thick cutover. The dogs caught, bulldog was deployed, VA was handy with the steel, and the first one was dispatched.

After striking out in several of our honey holes, I left the crew in good hands and headed to the cabin to get the oysters and BBQ together. Meanwhile, William’s mother gave the OK for him to be on the knife. I got a text that they had found a group and had a lot of action. 5 were killed, with William getting to stab his first, and my 5 year old even got to stab one. It was a bottom of the 9th walk off that made the day.

I appreciate Sean and his generosity, and I appreciate Tripp and his crew . They are true professionals, and so much fun to hunt with. I’m glad we were able to make it happen with far less than ideal conditions. Sean and William couldn’t stick around for the mean mug photo, but I can assure you they were wet and bloody.
