There is a reason they named the sport bumblebee baseball. I like a heavy broom handle cut to around 3 feet.

This! I also like using a good ole backyard baseball wiffle ball bat.

Whiffle ball bats provide a satisfying thump. I've been know to swing 1x to millwork pieces, broom handles, sticks, ball caps, shoot em with bb guns, etc. The sticks allow you to beat on the rafters until they drop out, providing the perfect strike!

I utilized the backhand this weekend while rescreening the porch. My brother does have one of those bug guns that shoots table salt. Something to attract flies and some beer, fun for all ages. Wonder if it has enough knockdown power for a carpenter bee?

I recently made some carpenter bee traps, but haven't had any takers, yet. Hopefully they'll start falling for them so I can stop dealing with the damage.

Has anyone figured out what, if anything, can be sprayed in to the existing holes to reinforce the joists? I've got years of tunnels in few that I'm beginning to wonder about.
Put dead ones in the traps, pheromones will attract more bees to the trap. I made 7 traps using 1x4's and 1x6's and a mason jar, they worked well after putting dead bees in them. Ended up having Corder Pest control drive out and spray the house for $75, no more bees boring and haven't even seen them even flying around.

They make a little air rifle that shoots salt. That is great on flies. I would think it would work on bees.

When my son was 6 or 7, he would sit on the back porch and shoot carpenter bees out of the air, while they were hovering, with a Daisy Buck bb gun. He killed a bunch of them.

The most satisfying I've ever done was with a car radio antenna. You'll hit one out of about every 5,000 swings, but when you whop a hoovering bee the wings will still be fluttering while the body has become yellow goo. When abroad where such ordnance isn't practical, my go to is the old ball cap. Pro tip- if one does go for the quick draw ball cap, make sure the bee is thrown free. Carpenter bees don't sting, but an angry insect gnawing on the top of ones head is never pleasant nor can one remain dignified in such situations.

I've heard that and put the traps up about two weeks ago when the first bees showed up. I'm planning on leaving some dead ones in them, but haven't caught any yet to do so. It's almost like the traps are spooking them to stay away because I've seen several, but they aren't attacking the joists in shed roof joists like they always have.

I hung two from the front porch rail with empty jars, and the three in the shed have a 1/4" of water mixed with a small piece of honey candy dissolved in it. Supposedly sugar is also an attractant, but I'm going to clean two of them out and test something else until I get some bees. We shall see.
