The Islamorada Hump is less than 10 miles out of Whale Harbour.

We catch small dolphin 2 miles or less off Big Pine and as far off as you want to run for bigger fish.

The lower you are in the keys the closer the stream is to land.

Avoid the mini season with your life, I made that mistake 2 of the last 3 seasons.

As far as catching dolphin out of a high tide , I am sure you can do it. I have caught them out of my tiny 17' poling skiff out of Fort Lauderdale, I imagine there will be even more opportunities in the keys.

    Unbelievable.

The "stream" is a current that is influenced by wind and other currents. In other words, it moves. It's close everywhere in south Florida. You can swim to it without getting winded in Boynton Beach.

But more importantly, the "stream" is irrelevant when all the water is hot, which it most certainly will be until October.

BB, if you're certified to dive, you can walk in, pretty much anywhere, and get a limit of lobster and you can do it at night, which is really cool. And you know I'm happy to talk to you about this stuff.

The intersection of the stream and the escarpment is much closer in the lower keys.

I'm trying to figure out what my best bet is for a half day charter for myself and my 10 year old, as well as welcome any tips for kayak accessible opportunities around Duck Key. He would love the opportunity to try for dolphin/sails, etc, but I'm not looking to drop a grand on a charter. What kind of options are there for near shore/reef stuff.

Fishing in the keys is gay. Killing a fish with a spear is where it's at down there...
